  3. REQUIREMENTS:  ALL of PMDBMs files (registered)
  4.                Memory - EMS (expanded)
  5.                       - XMS (extended)
  6.                WINDOWS ver 3.x running in Enhanced MODE
  7.  
  8. NOTES:         The two files referenced above work well on my system, which
  9.                is a i486 with 16megs. of RAM on the Motherboard. My current
  10.                Video card is EGA (8 bit) with a colour EGA monitor.
  11.  
  12.                I am using MS DOS 5.0, Nortons Desktop for Windows (NDW) ver
  13.                1.0  along with Norton Utilities ver. 6.01.

  15. THE PIF!
  16. ********

  18. In order to run a Non-Windows application, which the current BETA release
  19. of PMDBM is,  Windows needs some info about the program and how it should
  20. interact with other programs.  If you do not define such a file, Windows
  21. uses its default settings.  The Windows manual describes how to create and
  22. edit a PIF file using the PIF Editor.   The settings in this PMDBM.PIF has
  23. been set up as follows:

  25. PROGRAM FILENAME:   D:\pmd\pmd_win.bat
  26.  
  27.                     I have my PMDBM.EXE file on drive D: in a directory
  28.                     called PMD and start PMDBM.EXE from a Batch file named
  29.                     as above.
  30.  
  31.                     You should change this to the Drive, directory from
  32.                     where you presently have PMDBM.EXE stored and call the
  33.                     file you normally do to start this application.
  34.  
  35. WINDOW TITLE:       Opitional naming convention, but I have indicated
  36.                     PMDBM!
  37.  
  38. OPITIONAL 
  39. PARAMETERS:         None required
  40.  
  41.  START UP 
  42. DIRECTORY:          D:\pmd
  43.  
  44.                     This you should change to where you want WINDOWS to
  45.                     start PMDBM, as in my case my *.HDR and *.FIL files are
  46.                     located in this directory.
  47.  
  48. MEMORY
  49. REQUIREMENTS:       KB Required:  400   KB Desired:     -1
  50.  
  51.                     For further details, suggest that you consult the
  52.                     WINDOWS manuel, but these settings DO work for me.  Les
  53.                     GYURKY helped me to arrive at these setting and I've
  54.                     stuck with them.
  55.  
  56. DISPAY USAGE:       What I have shown is my preferance, but these can be
  57.                     changed to suite your needs and should not have any
  58.                     effect on the operation of PMDBM.
  59.  
  60. I have elected to CLOSE WINDON ON EXIT as I wish to close each and every
  61. file that was opened by this PIF file on exit.
  62.  
  63. ADVANCED:
  64.  
  65. These are not important to have PMDBM running succesfully, except for the
  66. MEMORY OPTIONS.

  68. Being that I have a large pool of memory to draw from <grin> and with Les
  69. improving on the memory swaping with each NEW release of PMDBM beta
  70. (experimental), the setting that I have can and should be adjusted for your
  71. system needs.
